The Jogger Pant: A summer update from the classic chino

A woman is never sexier than when she is comfortable in her clothes – Vera Wang

If you haven’t discovered the Jogger pant you are missing a fun, comfortable and surprisingly versatile style that is an update on the summer chino, and a great alternative to your denim.

Inspired by the classic sport pant, they combine comfort with fashion, something you wouldn’t expect from an item that can feel as easy to wear as a tracksuit or lounge wear. Soft and relaxed, even after a long day of running around, you won’t find yourself tugging at the waistband like you might in even the most comfortable jeans.

Soft, easy care, quick dry and usually no iron fabrics, mean Jogger pants are a winner for travelling too. The right pair will take you from day through to casual after 5 wear, which is just the kind of packing we like. Choose a block colour, and a little shimmer or shine if you want to dress them up as well as down and they will look equally as good with a pair of heels as they do for your sight-seeing during the day time.

A busy Saturday or Sunday could see you ferrying the kids to activities, meeting up with friends for coffee or lunch, a spot of shopping and even a little exercise or ‘me time’ in the sun. Jogger pants are the ideal separate for a busy weekend of catch ups and socialising that will look as good as they feel. Printed or plain, mix with a soft tee in long or short sleeves, flat sandals or a canvas shoe, and some cute accessories and you’re set for whatever the weekend brings.

Choose the dressier kind of the jogger pant style and you can even wear them to work. Dressier styles – think leather, silk – look great with a heel, not just flat shoes. They also work well with statement jewellery, a great handbag and a silk blouse, or even a structured blazer when the workplace or meeting calls for power dressing.

In our post-pandemic world, the humble tracksuit jogger has also become a fashion item! And there’s no doubting their comfort. To dress up your sweats, try a tonal outfit of one colour which will take your trackies from the comfort of your home to the supermarket run (not the office)

Of course the classic and most common way to wear the Jogger pant is super casual, with sneakers and a sporty or graphic tee. Perfect for layering on a cooler day; a denim jacket helps you banish frumpy without looking like you’re trying too hard, at any age.

Well worth trying, I think once you’ve sampled this more relaxed style you’ll wish you had been tempted sooner. Get in touch if you would like some help styling the jogger pant this season.
