‘I believe in pink’ said Audrey Hepburn and what a wise and caring woman of style she was and someone worth looking to for style inspiration.
Another woman we love hearing from is Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, and the announcement of the stars of Spring 16 has not disappointed. ‘Colors this season transport us to a happier, sunnier place where we feel free to express a wittier version of our real selves’ said Eiseman, and I’m pleased to say I agree.
A soft and romantic shade of pink, Rose Quartz headlines the list of the top 10 and has already been a popular colour on runways and in stores this season, with a reported 22% of designers having used the colour in their Spring/Summer 2016 collection. This delicate shade is infinitely versatile and appropriate in all clothing styles, formal, informal, activewear, bridal and menswear too.
A popular bridal colour, and for many far more flattering than more traditional white and shades of cream, Rose Quartz will be making its mark on bridal parties for brides as well as bridesmaids no doubt, and rightly so. The mineral of the same name is also known as the Love Stone, and is considered to have high energy, healing and love enhancing properties.
Whilst pink suits just about everyone and at any age, be careful not to go over board and wear it from head to toe. And don’t wear icy pastels together like rose pink and baby blue unless you want to look like a newborn nursery. Soft blush pinks like Rose Quartz pair beautifully with neutrals such as cream or khaki. Grey, black and white also work well with this lovely hue.
Style and structure are also important when it comes to choosing pink items for your wardrobe. If you want to look like a grown up steer clear of anything too poufy or you may look like you are on your way to your beginner ballet class. A sleek silhouette, even in the softest of fabrics, will make this colour timeless and classic at any age.
If you’re a little shy of pink, but want to dip your toe in this delicious shade, perhaps try a pink lip or nail, scarf or handbag as your starting point and enjoy the freshness and serenity Pantone believes the colour portrays. The Pantone announcement describes Rose Quartz as ‘a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Like a serene sunset, flushed cheek or budding flower, Rose Quartz reminds us to reflect on our surroundings during the busy but light hearted spring and summer months.’
