Men’s accessories: Key pieces you should have in your wardrobe

For women, adding accessories to our outfits may come quite naturally. But for men, wearing or buying the right accessories may be tricky. The key here is to wear pieces that you’re comfortable with. Keep it simple and classy.

Here are the essential men’s accessories that I believe every guy should consider owning.

Watch – This is the most common hand accessory for men and I think it can reveal a lot about a man’s character. It’s worthwhile investing in one classic timepiece instead of having several funky watches. A classic watch complements any great outfit.

Tie – Have several ties in your closet. It’s an easy way to add variety to your wardrobe. Alternate colours and patterns on different days or occasions. However, be careful of the patterns, colours and materials you choose. Remember to keep it simple and classy. Stick to basic patterns such as stripes and solid colours. Navy blue ties made of silk material always looks good.

Hats – Guys can show off their personality and style with hats. A baseball cap can be worn with casual outfits while a beanie can be worn during winter. For a dressy outfit, you may consider wearing a bucket hat, bowler/derby, fedora, flat cap, or newsboy cap. Coordination is important so make sure your hat complements your outfit.

Belt – Invest in a high quality leather belt as this can last you a long time. Black and chocolate brown are the classic colours and they’re versatile too. For a more casual outfit, there are belts made of canvas materials that come in a variety of colours and patterns. You can also try to play up your look by wearing a belt with an interesting buckle.

Cuff links – These pieces give your outfit a professional look, but they’re no longer confined to just the business suit. Patterned shirts now come in French cuffs so you can wear your links during a dinner date or a casual occasion. Cuff links come in a variety of colours, shapes and sizes, but I would still recommend the smart and clean cuff link designs.

Scarf – Invest in a classic, quality scarf (or maybe two!) that you can wear during winter. Pair your scarf with a pea coat or casual jacket. This keeps you both warm and stylish.

Sunglasses – Aside from protecting your eyes from the sun, sunglasses give your outfit more flair and can add a touch of mystery too! The most popular style is the aviator frame but there is a wide variety of frames available. Choose one that complements your face shape and makes you feel confident.

The simplest way to look your best.
