1 item, 3 ways in Cue with Sally & Anne

This week Sally and Anne hit up iconic Australian retailer Cue. We love the brand for it’s tailored pieces, feminine silhouettes and directional take on current trends. Did you know most of Cue is still made in Australia?

This week we’re going with the theme ‘1 item, 3 ways’ to show you how we take one piece and mix and match it to create various looks. Our aim is also to showcase our personal style and tastes. Each of us has our unique sense of style, including your stylists at Styled by Sally.

We are bringing these posts to you to show you how as stylists, we can choose any item of clothing and come up with different ways to wear it. We hope to give you the inspiration to work your own wardrobes to create new looks with your favourite pieces.

Anne’s PickThe Princess of Wales Double Breasted Jacket $529

Anne’s style is classic with a statement accessory like a bralette, metallic ankle boots or earrings. Anne zero’d in on this coat straight away (she beat me to the punch!) and knew it was her ‘piece’ for the session. How amazing is it! Checks are huge this season, and this long line jacket is so versatile.

LOOK #1 ~ The Power Suit

Anne took the check jacket and immediately knew she wanted to see it teamed with the matching pants. This is a great corporate style combination, one that will definitely get you noticed at the next board meeting!

Anne teamed the jacket with the matching Princess of Wales check trousers and wears the jacket buttoned up to really show off her waist and the double breasted detail. The open collar line is a great way to elongate your upper body and show off the décolletage if this is one of your assets. And how good would this suit be with a pair of red heels or boots?

LOOK #2 ~ The Mini Skirt

As you learned on the last blog (here) Anne loves a mini skirt. This A-Line Waist Tab Mini Skirt is such a versatile piece and a great shape to balance out the hips. She chose the apricot Asymmetric Georgette frill blouse that not only complimented the tones of the jacket but worked perfectly with her complexion. This colour can be a hard one to wear if you’re fair skinned, but if your skin tone has olive or deep undertones like Anne, this is a stunning colour on you.

LOOK #3 ~ The Black Cigarette Pant

You can’t really go wrong with a classic pair of black tapered trousers, and Anne chose these Long Detail Stretch Skinny Pants for both style and comfort. She softened the combination with the Autumn Poppy Blouse featuring a contrast keyhole cut out detail on the yoke, a contrast necktie and contrast button cuffs.

A feminine blouse it a great item to team with your tailored pieces. It will help create a softer, more feminine look and balance out sharp tailoring like a statement shoulder.

Anne’s JUST FOR FUN Look!

Anne wears the Crane Print Bootleg trouser and this gorgeous Camel Houndstooth Bustier, a key look for the season. When the weather cools, a bustier looks great over a classic white shirt or a simple white tee & jeans. Sally looks on giving her nod of approval 🙂

Sally’s PickThe Princess of Wales check trouser $319

Sally’s style can be quite changeable but her day to day style revolves around jeans and a tailored piece like a blazer or collared shirt. Sally had already spied these trousers and knew they were going to be a good fit for her shape and style. High waisted and a tapered leg, these trousers will work on a lot of shapes.

LOOK #1 ~ Print Clash

Sally loves to experiment with mixing prints and colours, so she chose the same gorgeous floral Poppy Blouse as Anne did to team with the trousers. The key to mixing your prints is to choose opposing prints but with the same colour palette. The colour theme is then complimented with the plum Long Wool Tailored Coat, picking up the same tones in both the pants and the blouse.

So the consistent colour running through all 3 pieces is the plum – in the check trousers, the floral shirt and of course the beautiful coat.

LOOK #2 ~ Tonal

Another favourite looks of Sally’s is to wear colour on colour. You can really team most colours with these pants, but Sally chose the combination of the Pink Wool Long Coat and matching Pink Short Sleeve Bow Knit. And we all know how Sally loves her pink.

Layering the same colours or variations of, creates not only a slimming look, but is also super stylish. And you can do this with any colour. Why not choose your favourite colour and give it a go?

LOOK #3 ~ The Bomber

Floral bomber jackets are still having a moment, and this gorgeous Crane Jacquard Jacket also worked with Sally’s favourite pants. Again, while the prints clearly clashed, the colours were complimentary. Sally chose this cream Asymetric Georgette Frill Shirt to bring out the pops of cream in the jacket but to also tie in a classic colour with the trousers.

Sally’s BONUS LOOK!

We all knew Sally couldn’t resist stealing Anne’s jacket, which she teamed with its matching trousers and cream blouse for the ultimate ‘BOSS LADY’ corporate look.

Thanks to Mia at Cue Melbourne Central for allowing us to play in store, stripping the mannequin so we could wear our size and transferring stock from Myer Melbourne.
