1 item, 3 ways in Country Road with Lore and Sally

One of our favourite retailers is Country Road. We shop there a lot with our clients because let’s face it, it’s a one stop shop. Great basics, work wear, casual wear, shoes and accessories (not to mention homewares & kids clothing!)

You can rely on Country Road for on-trend seasonal pieces but also those wardrobe classics you come back for season after season (did I hear you say black pants?)

As with our previous session in Cue (read here) Lore and I chose 1 item to style 3 different ways, showcasing our own personal styles.

Sally’s Pick ~ The skinny ripped jeans $119

It’s no secret I love my denim, so it made sense to choose a good pair of jeans to build my 3 looks around. These jeans have a comfortable mid rise, the perfect amount of stretch for comfort and that classic rigid denim look. They were ‘just’ long enough for me (admittedly I would have preferred them about 2 inches longer so I could cuff)

Denim is the ultimate neutral you can wear with EVERYTHING. Hence it’s such a classic staple for your wardrobe, you just need to find the right fit for you.

LOOK #1 ~ Washed, I mean BLUSHED OUT

I was drawn to this lovely silk Soft Single Breasted Jacket by the colour but it’s a really tough one to wear. The blush tones need to compliment your skin tone, and as soon as I teamed the matching silk long line shirt in nude, I just felt completely washed out. Nothing a little bronzer and bright lippy wouldn’t fi, but see what I did below to help the situation…

I found this lovely Oversized Check Scarf which picked up the blush tones but also complimented my silver pumps (my own) The addition of grey and white mixed with the nude meant the blush wasn’t closest to my face, making the jacket work a lot better. The texture in the scarf also gives the outfit a bit of interest. Had I not chosen the scarf, I would have tried a cream or white top to lift the jacket.

LOOK #2 ~ The Trench

Country Road’s take on the classic trench is this Longline Trench in caramel. A more casual style made of a cotton canvas, the slightly shorter cut is the perfect trans-seasonal piece. I’ve teamed it over the Print Button Blouse which has a real Zimmermann feel (without the price tag! Click the link to see the lovely button sleeve detail) I stupidly wore a black bra, but it would work much better over a nude one.

To tie in the neutral tones of the outfit I chose these Cassidy Lace Up Boots in sandstone. Black boots or shoes would be too heavy for this look. It’s important to balance lighter shades with similar tones in your accessories like bags, scarves and shoes.

LOOK #3 ~ Sneakers and Stripes

Who doesn’t like to get into their kicks after a long day on your feet. One of our favourite items at Country Road to style on clients with jeans is their long sleeve linen tees. This new style in a wide black and white stripe gives a bold look under a jacket.

Speaking of which, I chose this gorgeous mineral green Satin Bomber to throw on with a pair of simple Filipa Leather Sneaker to complete my off duty style. The bomber is slightly quilted and I have to say I was getting quite hot in to! So a great style I would suggest for those of you watching footy on the sidelines this winter 🙂

I then spotted this Woven Folded Backpack that is the perfect casual accessory to hold everything from your laptop to your make up, snacks for the kids or a layer to throw on later.

Lore’s Pick ~ The Black Double Breasted Jacket $349

A black blazer is a wardrobe staple (as suggested by Sally in her YouTube video) and Lore knew she could work a few key looks with this divine double breasted style.

Lore’s style is a bit more relaxed, preferring flats or wedges and she loves a comfy soft pant. Lore however is a bit new to the mirror selfie so she needed a bit of practice! I think she did OK 🙂

LOOK #1 ~ Grey tee & Soft Pant

Lore’s a BIG FAN of the drapey pant and already had these Soft Wrap Pants in her wardrobe. With a flattering waisted silhouette this pant has a wrap front, is slightly slouchy through the hip and thigh with a tapered leg. Cut from a soft satin crepe Lore teamed the pants with a simple Grey Marle Cap Sleeve Tee and her Sportsgirl silver slides.

The structured jacket works perfectly to balance out the softness of the pants. How well would Sally’s silver pumps work with this for an evening look? Silver and black is a great colour combination and one that can be both daytime and nighttime appropriate.

LOOK #2 ~ The Black Wet Look Jean

We honesty can’t tell you how many clients we’ve styled in these jeans over the years. They are the perfect “quick I’m going out and I need something to dress up this or this,” without the expense of a leather pant. But they work equally as well with a flat shoe, sneaker and tee.

Lore chose to style the 5 Pocket Wet Look Jegging with this lovely exposed shoulder knit for a classic black and white look. The cut outs are great for broad shoulders like Lore as they help to break up the shoulder line. The top would work equally as well tucked into a pencil skirt or waisted trouser for work.

LOOK #3 ~ Stripes and Denim

The ultimate foolproof outfit – stripes, denim and a great black blazer. Done.

This is the perfect look to take you from day to night; simply throw on some heels or dressy ankle boots and you’re ready for a night on the town (or casual Friday)

Lore chose the Authentic Skinny Jean in a vintage wash and the black and white striped Career Ponte 3/4 sleeve tee. The vintage wash jeans helps to make the look more casual, whereas you could swap these for the wet look black jegging for a dressier look.

We love the versatility of a good stripe and this 3/4 style is lovely on its own and is a dressier version of a cotton or linen t-shirt.

Lore completed her look with the black Ring Detail Felt Fedora. We get a lot of you saying you’re a little afraid of hats and feel ‘silly’ wearing them as an accessory. But we say go for it! Hat’s like this fedora are a very cool way to update your look and the ultimate anti-ageing accessory.
